You’re a Daisy if you Do
Welcome back!
Have you ever seen the movie Tombstone? If not, just to get you up to speed, it’s a western starring Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday and Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp. Most know Doc Holliday was a gunslinger, a gambler and a drunk. Wyatt was an ex-gunslinger turned lawman, these two became buddies and had numerous shootouts and adventures together, stay with me I’m going somewhere.
In the movie Doc had some really great one liners, my favorite being “You’re a daisy if you do.” My next favorite is” I’m your Huckleberry.” Whether you did or didn’t see the movie you may still wonder what he was talking about. I’m going to give my interpretation of what I think Doc meant. I’ll start with the daisy line, a daisy is a flower that’s used a lot for it’s sturdiness; it hangs in there. In people terms it might mean, sure or steadfast. I’m sure you’re getting this now, if you’re sure and steadfast you’re a daisy. Now, the Huckleberry line; he’s saying, I’m your man, I’m the one for the job.
Doc was a confident guy and it showed. He let everybody know he was the guy for the job and if you were a sure and steadfast person he liked that, and told you so. Are you catching on to what I’m saying? Does your confidence show? Are you the ‘go to’ guy or gal? If not, why not?
Answer these questions honestly as you can. If the answers turn out to be no then you have work to do. As you know this blog is about reaching your impossible dream and how to do that. Having confidence that shows and being the one people go to for answers can help you possess that dream.
Confidence doesn’t just show up, you build it. Finally, to be the go to person you need to be there for others so they will have confidence in you.
Hey there my Wealthy Affiliate buddy!
I just HAD to post a comment here and give you my 2 cents heh heh. (I feel you cringing already lol)
I happen to be a bit of a Doc Holiday fan myself and I have a cousin that is related to an illegitimate child of doc’s My cousin’s mom (my aunt) is a descendant of that illegitimate child from doc holiday. go figure.
I love your analogy of the daisy. It was thought I believe to be an expression of ‘you’re a dead man’ such as a referral of pushing up daisies.
Not true as it turns out. It does in fact refer to NOT having courage. In short Doc was known for his slang and confidence, but his use of daisy simply refers to being a coward.
You were close but just had it backwards.
Here’s something I had always loved about the movie tombstone myself and something not many folks caught onto. Val has a line as he portrays doc’s final days on his death bed and is dieing. He asked his good friend to leave him and basically let him die with dignity without those close to him seeing him in this bad way. He looks down and sees his bare feet and makes a funny pun saying “well isn’t that funny.”
Doc had a biography entitled “And they died with their boots on” about his adventures with Wyatt and the slaughter of the cowboy gang. I just thought it was a clever reference in the movie to this little known fact about doc.
To elaborate on this a bit doc was known for his use of slang and some of his one liners have been reported on accurately in history and the uses of his slang.
At the OK corral Frank McLaury says “I’ve got you now” when he thinks Doc is out of ammo and Doc responds “You’re a daisy if you do.” This was doc’s confidence and the slang he used basically calling him a coward if he was to gun down what he believed to be an unarmed man.
Later in the movie doc shoots the guy in the head and is yelling at him “your no daisy at all” … meaning he’s not a coward. Doc gave him credit for having the balls to stand up against him without what in doc’s mind was, … not a chance in hell of beating him.
Sorry for the long winded comment brudda. I just couldn’t resist heh heh
Hi Priest,
It’s great to have another point of view, only Tombstone fans will get it, but that’s Ok. Thanks for stopping by.

Interesting post. Although those 2 one-liners you mentioned are the most famous they are not my favoirte. I liked more of the comments like, “why ed, if I thought you were my friend…I just don’t think I could bear it…”. You know the really ultra smart ass comments.
Anyway, I have recently started into the blogging world about 3-4 months ago and I have this really strong drive to acheive online financial independence.
I realized that I no longer want to work for any corporation. I want to work for myself. I found that the way to do that is to help others learn what you already know. This is of course why I started my blog.
Hi Ben,
The guy that has the same name as my sister. I’m glad you made the decision to visit Moonbow Chaser. I love to write and that’s my main reason for blogging. I haven’t tried to make money as yet. Thanks for the comment and don’t be a stranger.

No problem. I just realized 4 months ago that I love to write. To make money writing sounds even better. I can’t wait to get my personal blog up. Wait until you read all the crazy stuff I will be writing about.
That is good that you are into fitness. It truly helps to make you happier and to get more things done. Ever since I have been training in Muay Thai and Jujitsu, I live a totally different lifestyle now. I don’t smoke anymore, I don’t gas out in 5 minutes of exersice and I lost weight.!
As far as making money goes, develop an authority blog first, then you can make money from that later.
Hi again,
I look forward to reading your new posts, I’ll be by.

I’m a HUGE Tombstone fan. Doc’s one liners in the movie are great! I decided to do a little research because I thought “daisy” meant coward as well. Glad to see that someone finally has it right. Priest Mclane thankyou for finally sorting this out as it seems quite a few people had it backwards.
Now how about “I’m your Huckleberry?”

Hi Laura
Thanks for the comment not too many Tombstone fans around but that’s okay. The term I’m you’re Huckleberry as I stated in my post means I am your guy, I am the man for the job. Doc was a confrontational guy and knew he didn’t have much to lose because he was a dying man. So, he was up to most any challenge, not to mention he was a very fast gun.

Just thinking more on the “daisy” quote. What happens to a daisy when any kind of a wind blows? It falls appart. I’m thinking perhaps this is why the term “daisy” became associate with being a spineless coward. Just a thought. :0)
Thanks badDawg for stopping by and adding your 2 cents in on “You’re a Daisy if you do” I love your insight into what Doc was saying and I am sure you’re right on target. Doc was very confident and knew he was a great gunfighter so anyone who could take him had to be even greater than himself.
