I would like to add to the last post which was keeping balance in our lives. There are several areas we need to pay close attention to and I’m going to touch on one of those today. That being our health. If we don’t have good health we can’t do much of anything. After all, if you’re sick or tired all the time you won’t want to chase your dream, worse yet, you’ll feel like giving up. There are different health related topics I could choose from, but today I’m going with the dreaded ‘exercise’ word. You’re going to hate me, but, I love to exercise. I have noticed that when I go to the gym, even when I don’t feel like it, I feel better afterwards.

Just because you don’t feel like it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it. Sometimes you have to dig deep and do it anyway. I try very hard not to make decisions based on how I feel, but on what I know. I know that once I get to the gym I will exercise. Once I get in there and get ‘in the zone’ I’m off and running. Once I get ‘in the zone’ I’m focused on getting it done, and the faster the better. So, I use a technique known as super setting which allows me to get it done in half the time doing the same amount of work. I’ve been weight training for many years and love it, but as the years went by I didn’t want to spend as much time in the gym as I had been, which was, three to four hours each time I went. Therefore, I began to investigate my options and came across super setting; which was and is the best answer to the problem.

Super setting is something anyone can do, the weight training guru’s like to say it’s an advanced form of weight training and I say ‘hogwash’. If I can do it anybody can. The only part of it that might be challenging is the intensity of it. You see when you super set you don’t rest, you go immediately to the next set. However, all you need to do is start out with easy sets; less reps and light weights. And if you want to crank it up then add more reps and more weight, you have control and can customize it to your level of fitness.

You can do your super sets on weight machines or with free weights, I do both. I super set my legs on machines, then superset my upper body with free weights. There are several methods of super setting the top two are; same muscle group and opposite muscle group. For example, if I use the same muscle group I will do two consecutive exercises for my back with no rest. And if I target opposite muscles I will do an exercise for my back, and follow with a chest exercise. I do both to switch up so that my body doesn’t get used to what I’m doing and not respond anymore. Don’t be afraid to get creative and try something new.

Weight training can be as creative as you want it to be and is one of the best forms of exercise you can do to reshape your body. That goes for men and women. BTW, don’t you women believe the stupid myth that you’ll get big muscles while weight training. Women simply don’t have the ability to bulk up without the help of drugs or supplements. I still weigh under 105lbs and have been weight training for many years.

If you are new to weight training I strongly suggest you work with a professional trainer before you begin. The trainer can explain in more detail super set techniques and show you proper form so that you will remain injury free.

The video’s are fun and also show an example of people doing what it takes to reach their dream. If they can do it so can you. I know you’ll recognize Arnold, even though it was back in the day. The training video for women is Rachel Mclish, so that you can see for yourself that women can still look feminine while weight training. She starts out doing a little sexy come on, but gets into serious training if you keep watching. Check out the determined look on their face as they train and perform. Enjoy.
