You Got to be Hungry
Welcome back!
What do you do when it something bad happens that catches you off guard? Do you run, hide, cry or remain calm? Usually I hide, I take off and nobody can find me. When things go wrong I don’t want to be around anybody, hear anybody or deal with anything. I do that same thing when I’m sick, I don’t want to be bothered or taken care of, I just want to be left alone. I do this so I won’t fight with everybody over everything. I don’t want old behavior patterns to come back and ruin everything I’ve fought so hard to change. It seems like once you let it happen it gets on a roll.
Does anyone have old behaviors that they don’t want to resurrect? You know the kind where you go off on everybody and don’t care what you say or do. These old behaviors usually resurface when faced with some type of serious emotional issue. The bad part is you kind of see it coming, but don’t do what’s necessary to stop it. The next thing you know it’s too late, you’re in the fire.
This is the kind of stuff that can result in the loss of a job, a friend or worse. I have had to learn the hard way. Now, like I said, I get away or avoid any and all nasty confrontations. Furthermore, until I can come back and deal with that issue in a calm manner I stay gone, sometimes for years. Why do I do that? Well, because I know me, I know what will happen and I refuse to go back to old patterns.
I have a dream, like Martin Luther King said, and it doesn’t include chaos, confusion and fighting. Of course, you can’t avoid trouble all the time. Consequently, self-control has to come into play, at least long enough to get out of there. If you want to see your dream come to pass you will have to be willing to do whatever it takes. No matter what comes your way you have to try to do what is right. Doing what’s right even when you don’t feel like it builds character.
We all should be working on building character. The only ones who don’t care about this are losers who use their anger to intimidate others. Naturally, most people see them as strong, when in reality they’re weak and don’t have what it takes to change. It takes a lot of courage and hard work to change your life for the better, especially when the deck’s not stacked in your favor.
To make the dream a reality you got to be hungry.
